I inherited this set from my aunt, and have since learned about their history: these 6-volume sets were edited by Olive Beaupre Miller and sold door-to-door by the Bookhouse Ladies, one volume at a time. The titles envision a child growing up in a Book House, from Mother Goose rhymes of the nursery through folk and fairy tales to legends, literature by Dickens, Robert Burns, Tennyson, Shakespeare and others, and author biographies. These collectible black "Castle" binding, 16th printing hardbound volumes have gilt titles on covers and spines, embossing on spines and borders around beautiful front cover art plates by N.C. Wyeth and other illustrators of that period, and illustrations on endpapers and throughout the poems and stories. The set includes Vol 1 In the Nursery (from 1925), Vol 2 Up One Pair of Stairs (1928), Vol 3 Through Fairy Halls (1928), Vol 4 The Treasure Chest (1928), Vol 5 From the Tower Window (1921), and Vol 6 The Latchkey (1925). The set is in very good+ condition, with firm and intact binding. There are some small scratches on some of the cover plates and backs, but the pages are all in remarkably good condition, with no wrinkles or tears.
