This is a late model 1950 John Deere A that has seen very little usage over the years . My grandfather bought it new in 1951 and it was used to do only annual plowing and harrowing. In the early 60's it was used only to pull a manure spreader. In 1966, my grandfather stopped farming and the tractor was used only a few hours a year to run a #5 mower to keep fields clear. I bought the farm in 1980 and continued to use the A to run the mower a few hours a year, until last year, when I replaced it with a power steering tractor. I am selling it because at my age it is just too hard to steer this tractor without power steering.
The tractor has always been kept in a shed out of the weather when not in use and has never needed any major work other than brakes and carb cleaning.
The sheet metal where the muffler comes out the top has been damaged and torn so that a new muffler could be installed. This was common with this model tractor because of poor design by JD
It is rated at 39 HP. It has the rolla-matic front end and 13.8 x 38 rear tires with 50% tread and NOT LOADED. It also has two original JD rear wheel weights. It has one set of hydraulics for operating one cylinder. It also has rock shafts that can be used for an after market 3 point. hitch.
The tractor starts and runs perfectly. It does not smoke or use oil . I converted it to electronic ignition and a 12 volt alternator. It come with a brand new battery , and the original JD parts book (not a photo copy).
