Have you ever used a flaxseed heating pad? If you have not, here is what you need to know:
*An hour after they are warmed, flax seeds will retain half of their heat.
*Flaxseeds will not smell like they are cooking as they are heated in the mircowave.
*Flaxseeds are not grains at all (like corn or rice). They are flower seeds and are composed of 30%-40% oil. This oil remains inside the seed to be warmed over and over again. When grains are heated, the water cooks out of them over time, making their lifespan much shorter when used as a filler for heating pads.
*Flaxseeds are a fraction of the size of a corn kernel or grain of rice, making for a more comfortable heating experience.
Warming: Microwave pad on high for 2 minutes. Check temperature, and add time in 30 second intervals if a warmer temperature is desired.
Cooling: Pads can be cooled in the freezer to soothe fevers. The pad will not get cold enough to soothe sprains. I recommend storing them in a freezer bag.
I have a variety of handmade flaxseed heating pads for sale. Each one measures 9" x 9" and are available with or without dried lavender buds. They can be used on necks, shoulders, knees, backs, ankles...you name it!
